Bio: Joseph Tilbian is a PhD candidate in the Media Arts and Technology Graduate Program at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a member of the AlloSphere Research Group. His research focuses on the design and development of a domain-specific language for sound synthesis, processing, and interaction design, called Stride. He is one of the co-founders of Okra Engineering, a company specializing in signal processing on embedded systems and designing mixed signal circuits. Prior to joining the PhD program, he worked at a robotics company as a motion control engineer, designing effort detection algorithms. He later worked at a nano-tech company as a test engineer, designing functional testers for printed circuit board assemblies. He holds a master's degree in Mechatronics from Aachen University of Applied Sciences and a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the American University of Beirut.
