Introverts' Collective | Hashtag Ensemble plays Rafał Zapała

Date:
Fri, 11/19/2021 - 7:30pm - 9:00pm
Location:
CCRMA Stage / CCRMA LIVE
Event Type:
Concert
Hashtag Ensemble presents participatory works by Rafał Zapała as part of his Fulbright residency at CNMAT, UC Berkeley. The concert will focus on artistic theory surrounding new open forms of music intermediated by technological tools. These forms are explored in the context of written scores and live chamber music performance. The program includes four participatory works involving the listeners, sometimes through physical interaction, sometimes with mobile consoles prepared for the pieces. The concert will feature a new work titled Introverts’ Collective which was created during Rafał's residency.

Open to Stanford affiliates for in-person attendance | Public Livestream

We dedicate the concert to the memory of Stanislaw Lem, the Polish science fiction writer and futurologist, whose 100th birthday anniversary we celebrated this year and whose spirit permeates each of the presented works. We will try to evoke Lem's characteristic world of bio-technological hybrids and experimental electronics, organically merging with the 'human factor', and the writer's typical critical distance towards technology.

The Adam Mickiewicz Institute is the organizer of this event. The concerts are co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland.

Hashtag Ensemble is a music cooperative specializing in contemporary music, improvisation and musical education, established by flutist Ania Karpowicz in 2013.

Hashtag Ensemble operates by creating egalitarian structures based on multi-layered activities of its members and by buliding programmes based on legible and usually non-musical contexts. An important element of the group’s concert practice is support and presentation of artistic achievements of women – since its beginning the group has cooperated with multiple female Composers and Artists.Intervention operations, concerts in the backyards of Warsaw townhouses (as part of the Warszemuzik festival) or on the street (e.g. Workers Union by L. Andriessen performed with Warsaw residents at Na Rozdrożu Square) are the foundation of Hashtag Ensemble rooting in locality and integration with small communities.

The group has been invited by European festivals and institutions, such as Warsaw Autumn, Sacrum Profanum, Intersonanzen, Sinfonia Varsovia, POLIN Music Festival, Tallin Afekt Festival, Poznań Music Spring, Musica Electronica Nova, Music Gardens, Warsaw Music Encounters and other.
