Iannis Xenakis memorial

A program of tape music in memory of pioneering composer Iannis Xenakis (1922-2001). Xenakis' raw, aggressive, and compelling electroacoustic music is based on his groundbreaking research into a number of new mathematical and electronic techniques. The composer was an early advocate of granular synthesis, during the era of analog electronic music studios; he was also a leader in adapting the first generations of computers for algorithmic composition. Later in his career, as director of the Center for Studies of Mathematical and Automated Music (CEMAMu, now CCMIX) in Paris, he developed the innovative UPIC and GENDYN programs for sound synthesis and composition.

This concert will feature a rare performance of Xenakis' monumental work La legende d'Eer in 8-channel surround sound.
