jTheta: re: and not re: John Cage
CCRMA's resident ensemble performs the music of John Cage, including the Seven Haiku for solo piano, and Five, with an ensemble featuring bassoon, bowed piano, pipa, alto saxophone,and soprano trombone. Cage's wide-open Theater Piece will be accompanied by a new electroacoustic realization of Rozart Mix for 88 tape loops, and special guest Loren Kiyoshi Dempster will perform the extraordinary One8 for solo cello. Loren Kiyoshi Dempster was born in Seattle, Washington. In 1996 he graduated with a BA/BM from the University of Washington, where he studied cello with Raymond Davis. Dempster recently studied cello with Bonnie Hampton and received an MM from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He began working with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company in 1999. A regular among Company musicians, he plays solo cello in Gavin Bryars' BIPED, and is recognized worldwide for his performance of John Cage's One8 in Cunningham's dance Interscape. jTheta is an ensemble based at the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA), at Stanford University.
