Bob Bellerue / halfnormal is a sound artist, composer, engineer, performer and writer from Los Angeles and elsewhere. His work utilizes homemade and hacked electronics and programming for live performance, sound installation, and recording. With a background in punk / acid rock, Balinese and Javanese gamelan, and Tibetan Buddhism, Bob is interested in the various ways that extreme sonic experiences affect awareness and identity, and the supple techniques used to focus and modulate energy. His work has been presented in Indonesia, Spain, and nine of the various United States, recently at the Yogyakarta Gamelan Festival, Centre de Cultura Contemporànea de Barcelona, Beyond Music Sound Festival, Olympia Experimental Music Festival, Highways Performance Space, Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, Living Arts of Tulsa, Dairy Center for the Arts, Crazyspace, 7Hz, the Smell, KXLU, KFJC, KSPC, KGNU, UC San Diego, UC Los Angeles, Naropa University, and the California Institute of the Arts. He has two CDs in release (Threat Level Charlie on Anarchymoon Recordings, and Blazing Grace on Banned Productions) and has been published in numerous journals including Trepan, Bombay Gin, Trouble, Basura, and the New Indicator. He was successfully involved with the MFA Composition - New Media program at California Institute of the Arts, studying with Mark Trayle, Tom Erbe, Morton Subotnick, David Rosenboom, Sara Roberts, and other tasty morsels.
