This directory contains the MS VC++ workspace and projects that I used to build the WIN32 version of the CBofN source code. It's included here in case you want to hack on the source. This port would have been more or less impossible without the plot.h package that I lifted from http://club.ib.be/plot.htm, so kudos to the author. I renamed the package to win98.cpp (in the src subdirectory) and changed only a small bit of it. Most of my changes are noted with the 'GWF' tag. Right now, the weak spot in the port is the command-line interface. I suspect that this is going to throw some Windows users. Perhaps in a later release I'll be able to put in a basic GUI similar to what is found in the Java applets. NB: The actual size of the plot window is determined by the environment variables CBNWIDTH and CBNHEIGHT. The default values are 640 and 480, respectively. To change them, type under DOS: set CBNWIDTH=1024 set CBNHEIGHT=768 (as an example) and make sure that you run the program from the same DOS shell so that the environment variables are passed to the program. When you use a program's -width and -height command-line switches, the code will center the graphics in the window if the command-line values are smaller than the environment values. But if they are larger, then they will be linearly rescaled. Note also that the programs now honor the -mag switch, which can be used to get fat pixels. [ Yes, this is a bit ugly, but there doesn't seem to be an elegant way to have the Windows driver honor the command-line switches. The problem is that if no switches are used, the plot sizes should default to the values in the main() function. But main() is not called until after WinMain (which does the graphics stuff), so I have a chicken and egg scenario. Anyone have a better idea that doesn't involve a major rewrite of all of the code? ] The default -term value is "Win" which is a simple color map. Using a -term of "win" will give a grayscale map. Note that in the color map the first color is always black, but every other color is bright. This is necessary for the fractal programs to produce reasonable graphics output. Have fun! -- GWF
