Course Topics

Definition & concepts of sonification.
Auditory mechanism & perception.
Data mapping.
Sound synthesis / DSP.
Toolkit: use, design, and development.

Course Structure:

Lectures / seminars (2 hrs/wk).
Lab sessions / office hours (1+ hrs/wk).
Homeworks (3~4 / qtr).
Final project. Possible topics:
  • Intuitive auditory display strategies, and/or
  • software tools to map data to sound.
