François Germain



I am a Visiting Research Scientist in the Speech & Audio group led by Dr. Jonathan Le Roux at the Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories (MERL) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. As part of that team, I conduct original research aiming to advance the state-of-the-art in the fields robust acquisition, recognition, and understanding of speech and audio.

I received an M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Music from Stanford University in 2014 and 2019 respectively, an M.A. in Music Technology from McGill University (Montreal, Canada) in 2011, and a Diplôme d’Ingénieur from Ecole Polytechnique (Palaiseau, France) in 2010.

I have previously worked as visiting researcher at Linköping University (Norrköping, Sweden), working with Pr. Gianpaolo Evangelista in the Sound and Technology Group. I have also worked as intern in the Creative Technology Labs at Adobe Research, under the supervision of Dr. Gautham Mysore, at Dolby Laboratories, under the supervision of Alan Seefeldt, and in the Intel Laboratories at Intel Corporation, under the supervision of Pr. Vladlen Koltun. And I have worked as a Research Engineer at iZotope, Inc. between 2018 and 2022.
