Music 220A Homework 2

Radio Play

Noah Makow

The purpose of this project was to create a binaural radio play. Binaural is essentially a representation of four channel audio that can be enjoyed through stereo speakers and headphones. The text I chose to read was Macbeth's famous speech in his self-titled play by William Shakespeare. I felt that this text was particularly dark and ominous, so I looked for dark-themed sound effects to accompany it. I ended up using a maniacal laugh, the ambient sound from a thunderstorm, the ringing of eery church bells, and several other scary sound effects. In this scene, Macbeth is talking about the task of murdering his king Duncan, so I imagined that he would be rather nervous. For this reason, I had him 'walking around in circles' by panning the audio in a circular manner about the four channels.
