Music 220a - Homework 5: FFT-based Real-time Tracking

Individual Input Audio Tracks

These were the pieces that I used to feed into the ChucK scripts - four orchestral excertps for solo cello and two selections from the randomly chosen nature file. One selection I chose was a snippet of bird song from around the 10th minute in the file, and a moment of talking from the beginning of the file while they were setting up.

Intermediate Mono Files

These reflect the individual tracks of the final version of the piece.

Result

In "scoring" the piece I open and close with amplitude-tracked (clarinet) excerpts of the nature sounds. In the case of the bird calls, which open the piece, I staggered the nature sound and the computer generated sound so the ear could process it more easily. Between those two sections are the cello excerpts played with their computer-generated counterparts, fading in and out, overlapping.
