THE STORM BREAKS

by Lawrence Fyfe

Concept

Do a project in the listening room.

Fact

The listening room offers more spacialization options than any other CCRMA space.

Theory

The spacialization of the listening room would be perfect for a "narrative sound design".

Definition

A "narrative sound design" attempts to tell a story using only sound (with no narrator).

Idea

A storm would make an interesting narrative in that it has a clear spacial aspect along with having a beginning, middle and end.

Material

The "Freesound" web site has many natural, unprocessed sounds that could be used to tell the story of the storm.

Canvas

The combination of Audacity and Ardour work well for arranging the pieces of a sound design, narrative or otherwise.
