Information

For this piece, I was inspired by my laptop. I decided to base my concept on the crazy parties that people were dreaming of having once they finish their finals. I wanted to capture the restlessness people were having in this piece. The song is ordered as such:

About each section

Scored sections

Inspired by the bird sounds in the nature track, I selected two sections which had intriguing rhythms similar to actual written music and played the piano to it. The multiTracker was used. I did not change much of the code apart from slight tweaks to the STK instruments and its parameters. This is the case for all the code I used in this assignment.

Free sections

I had a lot of fun with the free sections. The "instrument" I used was actually the mic and the keyboard of my laptop. My laptop has a large bar-shaped speaker/microphone. I realized that I could play it like a instrument when I am recording sounds with the multiTracker and amplitudeFrequencyTracker on, so I used this method to record my "instrument". Sounds were made by sliding fingers up and down the speaker, typing on the keyboard and scratching as well as just touching the area around the keyboard on the laptop.

Rhythm section

Continuing with the "before finals" theme of the "keyboard instrument" I played in the free section, the sounds in the rhythm section were generated by shreding the amplitudeFrequencyTracker and amplitudeSpectrumTracker, and flipping books and papers in from of the microphone. The sounds made by the page flipping was not clearly captured by the microphone, but the sound produced was. This is jammed to a techno beat from freesound.org.
