Relation to On-Line Dictionaries

There are plenty of dictionaries on the Web, and they are useful as a last resort. However, they have the following shortcomings:

• Alternate definitions (no use of context to disambiguate)
• Closed; no competing definitions
• Poor coverage of topics in higher education
• Terse, incompletely linked (if definitions have links at all)
• Comparatively poor linkage to related topics
• Non-extensible, non-downloadable, and not made available as a basis for automatic link installation
