Music 220a Homework 5

Details:

For the first part of my piece, I played on a guitar tuned town to drop D (meaning that the bottom string was tuned to D, not E). As such, I manipulated the Amplitude Tracker code in Chuck to have the clarinet sound play a drone D (I liked the sound of the Tracker code). Over this drone, I soloed, and played a slower riff-like passage for my first section. For the section improvised solo section, I tuned the guitar to Open D (D A D F# A D), and over the Frequency tracker code, I played a series of chords (again, I liked the sound of the Frequency tracker code for this one).

For the second part, I riffed on Steve Reich's "Clapping Music." In both sections for this part of the piece, I maintained the rhythm for the top line of the Reich, kept the drop D tuning, and played a scale up and down the guitar (I love scales). For the first section, I played over the Amplitude tracker code, and for the second section, I played over the Multi-tracker Chuck code.p>

For the final part, I randomly picked example nature-18. For this, I focused on two sounds- what I perceived as the central "bird 1" theme (7 notes), and another shorter "bird 2" theme that seemed to precede the first theme. I chose to document and sketch out these sounds because bird sounds are the predominant sounds I hear in the audio, and these two songs in particular are the most evident. I recorded them on the guitar, and used the Frequency Tracker as the computer sounds behind it.

I changed the channels up for each section- the first free, rhythm, and scored sections come out of the left side of the speakers, while the second free, rhythm, and scored sections come out of the right side of the speakers.
