Score

Description

After listening to the nature recording I received, I drew my score, show above. I noticed that the first few minutes were characterized by a transition from soft curning waves and light singing birds to loud, playful, squaking gulls walking right next to the microphone, and then away as the original peacful setting reappeared. I wanted to imitate this with my piece, and so it begins with some wave-like guitar arpeggios and soft melody lines filtered with a comb filter, which added an airy and chirping-like quality that I thought imitated well both the waves and the surrounding birds. Eventually, however, these sounds are replaced with a brusque, forcefull but happy software blowbotl instrument. This one voice is eventually joined by many other instruments, all representing the growing crowd of loud and playful gulls. I wanted to capture their games in my piece, so I thought that the bottle instruments and background of shakers complimented the nature recording well.
