Homework 3

Here is my third homework submission for Stanford Music 220a.

This assignment is an auditory illusion using frequency modulation and auditory streaming. A short melody of four pitches is played into the left audio channel and a harmonizing melody is played into the right audio channel. The melody actually comes from the lyrics "little darling" from The Beatles' "Here Comes The Sun" (the song that I happened to be humming at the time I did this assignment).

NA

The four-note melody plays in a loop for 40 seconds, speeding up each time. The first couple of times it is played, the listener percieves it as a melody and a harmony, but as the notes speed up, the listener starts to hear three different streams.
