Description of Method:

For this assignment, my initial inspiration came from the song Dueling Banjos, in which two banjo players riff on each other's short sections of music back and forth. In that vein, I wanted to emulate the style of sound transformation in which one person tries to follow and elaborate on what another person is playing. Of course, in this case, the 'partner' is a computer controlled by a ChucK score. The Random Duet Partner is capable of taking in a .wav file, and as its name implies, randomly riffing on it with a variety of tools, all of which are pseudorandomly parameterized with random numbers drawn from a variety of probability distributions (exponential, uniform, etc.). Its parameters randomly cycle after a random period of time, so the Duet Partner will attempt to elaborate on different sections of differently. It plays the original tune out of the left channel and the transformed one out of the right, so you can listen to the difference between the two. There are three examples of its output above.
