Description

For this assignment, I used 5 sounds to create a narrative. In the beginning, there is nature, comprised of both the nature sounds that we were given and also a computerized bird sound that I sent through an amplitude/spectrum analysis file in Chuck. The computerized birds mimic the birds in the original nature. Then, nature begins to cry out (cue goose sounds) as the drums are introduced (I recorded this drum pattern using a pair of toy bongos that my roommate has). These drums represent human civilization and progress, and they speed up, similarly to how man's destruction of nature has continued at an increasing rate. This destruction is the cause of the geese crying out. Eventually, both the drums and the geese fade, symbolizing the death of both nature and man. At last, we are left with water and an ominous bass solo. I chose water because this is one thing that humans will never completely use up (maybe fresh water, but not the ocean) and because water is what killed humans in the story of Noah. Man has destroyed nature, and water has destroyed man, leaving a bleak world, symbolized by the melancholy, almost nostalgic bass solo at the end.
