Alison Rush
Sources
The sampled sound is me singing selections from “Dies, Nox, et Omnia”, the 16th section of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana:
Original (Latin/Old French) |
My English translation |
Dies, nox, et omnia |
Day, night, and everything |
mihi sunt contraria; |
Are hostile to me; |
virginum colloquia |
The chatter of maidens |
me fay planszer, |
makes me weep |
oy suvenz suspirer, |
Oh, to sigh so often |
plu me fay temer. |
Makes me (still) more afraid. |
|
|
Tua
pulchra facies, |
Your beautiful face |
me fay planszer milies, |
Makes me weep a thousand times |
pectus habens glacies, |
You, with your heart of ice |
a ramender ... |
To restore (me)... |
statim viva fierem |
I'd return to life immediately |
per un baser. |
With one kiss. |
Editorial note: the original narrator was male, so he sang “vivus” (the masculine form of the adjective “alive”). The feminine version is “viva”, so I sang that.
