Music 220a - Homework 2: Radioplay

Chuck Files

Sound Files

Generated Wave File

Description

For this project, I wanted to do some sort of dramatic reading and add sound effects to it. I decided to use T.S. Eliot's "The Hollow Men" for my radioplay, as I felt it would lend itself well to a dramatic reading and would have ample opportunities to add effects in order to absorb the listener in the track. I did almost all of the recording in Audacity using my personal USB mic and the effects in Audacity - namely echo, normalization, equalization, fade in/fade out, and amplification/deamplification. The farther I got in the project, the more complicated I wanted to make it, and I eventually ended up with the ridiculous number of tracks you see above. These were all edited and placed in Audacity, and then exported as files the same length of the project (to ease the transition to Chuck). One persistent track of the poem's reading persist in the front channels, and two wind tracks continue to the left and right sides. In the midst of this, different intervening sound effects serve to immerse the listener and correspond with the words of the poem. It took a while to get just right, but I'm very pleased with the final product. I hope you enjoy it as well.
