I used "Monthly critical radio frequencies in Washington, D.C., May 1934 – April 1954. These frequencies reflect the highest radio frequency that can be used for broadcasting" as my primary data set

My second data set was "U.S. annual coffee consumption. 1910 – 1970."

  • Description

The two datasets I used were originally intended to be humorous, relating the number of urgent radio signals from Washington during WWII and its aftermath and the amount of coffee that Americans drank during that time. Supposedly, the amount of coffee drank would go up with the number of emergency radio signals sent from Washington. What emerged from the shredding was something much more melancholy. To me, the radio signal data from Washington sounds eerily like an air raid siren when a Sawtooth oscillator is used instead of SinOsc. Hearing this, I spaced out the points in the annual consumption of coffee so that they would spike up for every year in the range. The effect is a sort of eerie cry for help. Too heavy.
