Richard E. Goldberg
Dr. Goldberg is helping companies make better asset management, risk
management, and pricing decisions in an increasingly complex,
uncertain, and competitive business environment. He is a
specialist in the use of financial techniques for calculating the value
and managing the risks associated with physical assets (e.g., power
plants), contract commitments (e.g., bulk power and gas trades, fuel
purchase agreements), and retail customers. He also has recently
been involved with the business issues associated with digital media
standards and is the co-author of a leading textbook on digital audio
technology and standards.
Prior to joining The Brattle Group, Dr. Goldberg was Manager, Risk
& Asset Management for the Electric Power Research Institute
(EPRI). At EPRI, Dr. Goldberg and his team applied financial
option pricing techniques to asset buy/sell decisions, capital
budgeting, commodity trading, retail service design, and corporate risk
management. This work was documented in EPRI reports and
reflected in EPRI products such as the EPRI Energy Book System
software. Prior to EPRI, Dr. Goldberg was a Senior Associate at
Decision Focus Incorporated. There he consulted to electric and
gas utilities on issues including: fuel planning, capital and O&M
budgeting, power market contracting, and non-utility generation
forecasting.
Dr. Goldberg has an A.B. in Astrophysical Sciences from Princeton
University and both an M.S. and Ph.D. in Physics from Stanford
University. He has held research positions at Stanford
University, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Princeton
University, the National Center for Atmospheric Research, and the
Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.
