Winning first prizes at the International Chamber Music Competition in Bad Dürkheim in both 1990 and 1991, he made his first CD recording in 1992 with the Baynov Piano Ensemble. His first radio recording was done for Swiss Radio DRS in 1995.

His studies at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg have been with Michael Leuschner (piano), and Cornelius Schwehr (theory), with a special interest in the composition class of Mathias Spahlinger. Sebastian has participated in over thirty productions and premieres with the Ensemble für Neue Musik at the Institute für Neue Musik Freiburg under Arturo Tamayo and Johannes Schöllhorn, including works by Nicolas A. Huber, Gordon Monahan, Malcolm Goldstein, Milton Estevz, Blás Atehortua and Herbert Henck.

While living in Prague shortly after the breakdown of the Iron Curtain he studied with Jan Panenka at the Academy of Arts. He received the Master of Arts in 1997, delivering his thesis on Ligeti's Piano Etude No. 1, Désordre.

Since 1998 he tours the USA regularly in recital and as teacher. In 1999 Radio WFMT Chicago featured a two?hour interview/recital in a live broadcast.

He was voted best Young Interpreter 1999 by the German Society for New Music. Concerts with the Ensemble Modern and at the ZKM Karlsruhe followed as well as radio recordings for Schweitzer Radio DRS, Hessischer Rundfunk, Radio Bremen, Deutschlandradio Berlin and Südwestrundfunk. Back in Freiburg he received a performance diploma under James Avery. Sebastian has participated in masterclasses with Paul Badura-Skoda, John Perry, Bernard Roberts, Berhard Wambach and Bernard Marchand.

In January, 2000 he premiered Alexander Grebtschenko?s piano trio Annihilation and won the prize for interpretation at the Mendelssohn Competition Berlin 2000. For his performance of the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra by John Cage in Darmstadt he won a prestigious scholarship, and was a guest performer with Ensemble Resonanz at the Ferienkurse 2002.
